Nello spazio letterario autobiografico (e sicuramente anche nella vita dell'autore) la ricostruzione parte dal nome: quel Biagio Pingaro diventato in spagnolo Blas Pingaro. forse per acquisire maggior rispetto sociale, ovvero sottrarsi al nomignolo dispregiativo con cui gli argentini qualificavano gli emigranti italiani: tano, inizialmente sinonimo di napoletano. Una dichiarazione di identità che viene poi contraddetta dal titolo del libro, I.immigrante sconosciuto. perché sconosciute erano, e a lungo lo sono state, le vicende personali di chi. come lui. ha tentato. nel suo caso con successo, un miglioramento delle proprie condizioni economiche, sociali, culturali.
